How to Obtain Your SpeeDee Delivery API Credentials

A step-by-step guide to creating your SpeeDee API subscription key.

SpeeDee Delivery provides API access through a developer portal. Your credential is a subscription key, a long string of characters that identifies your account when connecting to SpeeDee’s shipping services. The steps below walk you through creating an account and generating that key. Plan on about 10 minutes.

Before you start

  • An email address you can access (you will need to confirm it).
  • Your SpeeDee account information on hand, in case it is requested.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the SpeeDee developer portal. Go to https://speedeeapi.developer.azure-api.net and click Sign up in the top-right corner.

  2. Create your account. Enter your name, email, and a password, then submit the form.

  3. Confirm your email. Check your inbox for an email from apimgmt-noreply@mail.windowsazure.com with the subject “Please confirm your new SpeeDee Delivery Service API account.” Click the link inside to activate your account. If you do not see it within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.

  4. Sign in. Return to the portal and sign in with the email and password you just created.

  5. Create a subscription. Click Products in the top menu, then choose a plan:

    • Starter is created instantly and is fine for setup and testing.
    • Unlimited is for live, day-to-day shipping and is requested rather than created instantly.

  6. Name it and subscribe. Click the plan you want, give your subscription a name you will recognize later (for example, your company name), and click Subscribe. This generates your subscription key.

  7. Find and copy your key. Open your account profile by clicking your name or email in the top-right corner. Locate the subscription you just created. Click Show to reveal the Primary key, then copy it. This key is your API credential.

Optional: test that it works

From the top menu, click APIs and open the Shipping API. Pick any operation from the list on the left, then click the green Try It button on the right. Your subscription key fills in automatically. Scroll to the bottom of the test window and click Send. A successful response confirms your key is active.

Send your credentials to Shipstore

Once your SpeeDee API account is set up, send your SpeeDee Username and password to Shipstore so we can connect SpeeDee to your account.

If you would like nightly tracking enabled, also send your TrkPass (tracking password) to Shipstore.

For your security, send these through a secure channel rather than plain email where possible. If you are not sure how, ask your Shipstore contact for the preferred method.

Keep your key secure

Treat your subscription key like a password. Anyone who has it can make API requests against your account. Do not share it publicly or post it where others can see it. If you ever need it again, you can return to your account profile to view or copy it.

Each subscription includes a Primary and a Secondary key. Either one works. The Secondary key is useful if you ever need to rotate keys without interrupting service.
